Back on January 8th, Amanda Laird and I recorded an episode about the four marketing trends she was forecasting for the year ahead.
Now that it’s December, we’re revisiting those trends to talk about what actually happened — exclusively for Clubhouse members!
Tune in as we recap what happened in the world of creative small business, specifically around: AI, social media, Substack, and IRL events.
Here are a few gems (some quotes, some vibes) from the conversation:
In January, AI felt new and emergent. Now I feel like it’s fully integrated…but it’s lurking in the back of everybody’s business.
I saw a lot of service providers using chatbots as lead magnets and that felt really misaligned, because as a service provider it’s your brain, your vibe, and your energy that’s going to sell me.
X is dead for the small business use case.
Everything feels different… but was there actually any seismic shift in the social media landscape?
If you are not using these tools the way that the platform wants you to use them, then you will not see success.
It’s very easy as a US-based podcaster and business owner to revel in how international your business can be without reckoning with the supremacy of US culture and political violence around the world.
I think it’s quite possible to have a simple business model, and I also think if you’re operating online you’re impacted by the mood of the internet.
We’re all going to have to cultivate more unique and distinct rhythms for sharing our work, and we’re all going to have to uplevel our energetics around money.
I would truly never drink Google juice… but mine was good.
